I saw this alley while walking back to where the car was parked. I had hoped to find just one more location, and the way the sun hit this wall captured my attention. The sky was so blue that day, so I knew that I wanted to take at least one picture that had a bit, if anything, of it. While I was appreciating the building, my mom was looking down the alley at some car that had balloons in it. I guess these pictures are trying to evoke some form of content.
This was the first location I decided to go to. Something about the colors in this area drew me in. This area was so sunny and windy, it was hard to take a picture that I could both see and liked. The sun sort of helped with the composition of these pictures because the uneven texture cast little shadows that create visual interest. Not only that, but a lens flare showed up in the middle picture, making it have a happy feeling.
I had a difficult time taking these pictures because by this point in my journey, my little 'pack' doubled in numbers. This building is also on the corner of a block, and a lot of people were trying to cross the street. I felt like lens flares were a bit of a theme on this outing. Other than the middle picture, this set feels pretty serious. I stood at the edge of the sidewalk for a little just waiting for the people to clear.
This building, the John Harper Building, is right next to that alley that I chose for my first location. When I stepped off the sidewalk into a small tree bed to get these pictures, a lot of people walking by gave me strange looks. I loved the concept of this location because it's historical, and it's filled with old and used books. It was so fitting, especially since the facade itself feels just as cozy as the interior. I thought that it was perfect that the sun, here, was blocked by the height of the structure because the grey of the sky just adds to the feel of the images.
I saw this location from across the street, and I almost took the shots from there before I realized that the trees at the edge of the sidewalk would completely obstruct my view. I loved how this brick had both blue and red brick. The use of the former color adds nice pops around the windows and in the diamonds. I also thought it was interesting that there was cornice-like decoration around the top of the building. Just like the third location, I wanted to capture the deep blue in the windows.
